Sensei Ray Field 4th DanSensei Ray Field (5th dan)
Chief Instructor to W.B.K.Kai

Ray started his training in boxing in 1973 at the Golden Gloves Gym in Bilston. In 1974 he joined West Bromwich karate kai to begin his martial arts career with Sensei Roy Partridge.

During the next 6 years Ray focused his attention on competition kumite throughout the UK and also trained as a BKA national referee and judge along with Roy who was a member of the BKA national executive. This period was very exciting as martial arts really began to expand and WBKK, having begun in the early fifties, had the pedigree to attract the noted karate-ka. Ray was fortunate to train along side the likes of Steve Cattle, John Smith, Peter Spanton, Toru Tokamizawa, etc. Also there were training visits from the great French champion Doninque Valera.

Ray progressed through the Wado-Ryu syllabus to attain 1st kyu grade. It was then in 1980 he immigrated to New Zealand to start a new way of life. Although living on the other side of the world, Ray re-started training under Sensei Hiroshi Fujimoto, Master of Go-Ju Ryu and Kempo from 1987 until 1992. Ray trained in Go-Jo Ryu and after passing his 1st Dan went on to learn Inyo-Ryu Kempo. Also in 1992 Ray began training in Tai-Chi Chuan-Yang style, (both long & short forms) with Dr D.Yuan and became the doctor's senior instructor. In 1994 ray came full circle and returned to England to train with Sensei Roy at W.B.K.Kai.

With the very sad loss of Roy in July 2000, Ray was Honoured to become the present Chief Instructor to W.B.K.Kai.

Ray's future aims

To make WBKKai a prominent force in martial arts and continue with the traditions lay down by his late mentor Master Roy Partridge.
