Summer Camp - July 27th 2009 Report
Location: Biblins Youth Camp. Forest of Dean, Ross on Wye.
This was our 5th year at the Biblins site situated along the river Wye, and as we have come to expect it was going to be a very entertaining week for all.
First day Monday, we arrived with blue skies overhead and we watched in amazement from the safety of the bunkhouse, as Craig, Marshall, Reuban & Elliott erected the first of 3 tents. 2hrs 41 mins later the first one was finished - yes it was 2hrs 41mins exactly! At least the next two were a bit smaller and they now had some practice. The evening saw all the males including both Sensei Ray & Sensei Glen, got a manicure and their nails painted by Stacey & Holly. Everyone had to admit that not only did it suit them…but they actually enjoyed it!
Tuesday started with a full English breakfast cooked by our resident chef Chris, and then a few mile walk to Symonds Yat…and then a few more miles up to Yat Rock. When the evening rolled around, it began with general chat and laugher by the fire but soon turned to a game of truth or dare. Penalties included Mark dressing up in women’s underwear, Holly licking Mark’s big toe and Connor & Mark having their legs waxed! Its amazing what girly sounds can come from two strapping young lads!
Wednesday greeted us with rain, rain….& more rain. However this did not affect the mood of the group. During the evening the students decided to give each other makeovers. Mark was the first to be made over with the help of Holly & Shannon. After alot of eye-liner, mascara and lip-gloss, Mark was transformed into a slightly feminine Chinese Emperor. Stacey & Holly then turned each other into a singing duo of Amy Winehouse & Britney Spears. Shannon was next in the chair, and her face soon became a canvas for Mark & Tom to unleash their artistic talents. It is still unclear as to who or what Shannon was meant to be. Shannon then got her own back, and turned Tom into Harry Potter complete with glasses and scar, and also turned Lauren into Hannah Montana.
Thursday was kind to us, and brought us back the sunshine. The day began with a walk in the forest and up to the caves. When we were back it was time to start preparing for the BBQ. The lads helped chop the wood, and then joined the girls in entertaining the scouts across the field, whilst “The Men” - Chris, Ray, Glen, Andy & Craig attempted to get the BBQ lit. It was also a night of celebration as it was Elliott’s birthday, and we all surprised him with a birthday cake. A few hours later the evening was soon underway, and everyone enjoyed the BBQ…and the beer!
Friday morning came, and after our final breakfast it was time for a spot of spring cleaning. Everybody had to work together to get the Bunkhouse clean, ready for us to leave. After the blood, sweat and tears of cleaning, we handed over the keys and headed for Symonds Yat for the afternoon. Everyone sat and relaxed by the river, and enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches, chips and ice-cream…which was worked off when we returned to the Do-Jo the next day! After a few hours, we returned to Biblins and said our goodbyes before starting our journey home, ready for our next adventure in 2010.

The recently re-furbished Hombu Do-Jo is almost finished and will be ready for training on our return (5th Jan 2009) The new colour scheme and lighting have made for a much brighter atmosphere and the wood panelled floor is a perfect medium. Once the display cabinet is back in place and some posters on the walls We will be ready for the next 50 years.
Exciting times are ahead with the formation of (EWF) English Wado Federation which has created a further platform for us to compete at top national and international events and also allow students to excel at all levels. The first of our Invitational Kata championships will take place at Cheslyn Hay on 18th Jan 2009.
Welcome to our new website.
Hope the new format appeals to you and very big thanks to the designers JeliNet for your expertise in this field.
This year is our 50th Anniversary in karate and still at the original venue. Work is underway to highlight and celebrate this historic event.
The students and squad members are enjoying Sunday training within our 3rd facility at the Great Bridge campus opened on 11th May.
Congratulations go to Shannon, Stacey & Hayley on your selection to represent Wado Kai England in Romania on 2nd November.
